Coastal Bay Seafoods

Coastal Bay

For home cooks, dinner can now start with a stop at Coastal Bay Seafoods. Located at 12 Grant Square in Hinsdale, in the former Burhop’s space, the neighborhood seafood market opened in February 2025 under the ownership of Ruth Arichabala, a food industry veteran with 20 years of experience in the seafood industry.

Coastal Bay is a woman-owned, family-run market built around fresh seafood, friendly service, and practical options for meals at home. Ruth’s husband, Dimas Arichabala, who brings more than 25 years of cooking experience in Chicagoland Italian restaurants, has added culinary expertise to the shop’s prepared food offerings.

The market offers a rotating selection of fresh, frozen, prepared, and take-and-bake seafood, including Salmon, Halibut, Branzino, Cod, Grouper, Lake Perch, Mahi Mahi, Octopus, Pacific Sole, Red Snapper, Scallops, Spanish Mackerel, Swordfish, Trout, Tuna, Whitefish, and Walleye. With fresh fish arriving six out of seven days each week, Coastal Bay gives customers access to seafood selected with quality and consistency in mind.

Customers will also find prepared items designed to make dinner easier, from cooked cocktail shrimp and seafood salads to smoked fish spreads, bruschetta, crab cakes, crab-stuffed mushrooms, soups, sauces, and take-and-bake Salmon Wellington. The shop also carries oysters, clams, mussels, herring, tinned fish, crackers, condiments, and kitchen tools.

Early response has been encouraging. “The store is family-owned and run, and the staff are very welcoming and helpful,” wrote Lauren V. in a Yelp review. “I’ve been shopping there regularly for the past 6 months, and the fresh fish is excellent.”

For customers who know exactly what they want, Coastal Bay offers familiar seafood staples. For those who are less confident cooking fish at home, the knowledgeable staff can answer questions, offer recommendations, and help shoppers choose seafood for everyday meals or special occasions. It is the kind of neighborhood market that makes seafood feel less intimidating, more flexible, and easier to bring into the regular dinner rotation.

Whether the plan is a simple salmon dinner, seafood for entertaining, or something a little more special, Coastal Bay Seafoods gives Hinsdale a fresh new reason to shop local.
