Downers Grove Christian School

Enthusiasm and encouragement — two words that capture the energy and explain the academic success of Downers Grove Christian School. For over 55 years, DGCS has helped teach and develop children from Pre-School thru 8th grade. Each day, staff and teachers work with students and parents to “raise up” positive role models – kind, educated, grounded youth.

DGCS takes academics seriously — and the results are impressive. When benchmarked against national averages – even before 2020 – DGCS students outperform peers in all critical learning areas by more than one grade level. Years of Iowa Assessment Testing for Grades 1 thru 8 document significantly better academic outcomes across the board for DGCS students.

This consistent performance comes from a focused, engaging learning environment. DGCS avoids distractions and nonsense that detract from learning math, science, reading, history, Bible, and so much more. But make no mistake — DGCS is a fun and engaging place for children to grow and learn — teachers constantly bring creativity, challenge, and adventure to the learning process. The deep loyalty DGCS students share over decades speaks to the learning and wonderful relationships gained.

Beyond the classroom, students find opportunities to develop their skills and character in sports, music, plays, and other special avenues. Students can pursue athletics and compete in team sports like soccer, basketball, and volleyball. These days, DGCS boys and girls have energized their school and families by playing hard, modeling sportsmanship, and winning championships! DGCS also offers band, a technology club, and various activities like chess to culinary arts to promote social interaction and explore personal interests. Speech Meets, Science Fair, Reading Fair, and Math Olympics expand students’ skills and confidence.

DGCS is guided by faith in Christ and the Bible as God’s Word. At the heart of DGCS one finds Christian believers who are enthusiastic about teaching; they encourage students by serving as role models of their faith. DGCS holds a dedicated chapel time each week that brings the entire school community together for a Biblical lesson and prayer – and families are invited.

DGCS graduates move forward well prepared for high school – academically, socially, and physically; they also gain spiritual understanding and the means to stay grounded. For decades, DGCS has been a unique wellspring of enthusiasm and encouragement for our community’s children and families.
