Dr. Michael Byun’s approach to facial rejuvenation is grounded in a deep understanding of anatomy and a commitment to natural-looking results. Trained at Northwestern University Medical School, where he completed an integrated plastic surgery fellowship, he developed a distinct technique known as The Byun Lift—designed to address the limitations he observed in traditional facelifts.

“I was dissatisfied with the unnatural results of traditional facelift techniques,” Dr. Byun explains, noting that many approaches relied heavily on skin tightening and fat grafting, often leading to an overdone appearance. Drawing on both surgical training and an artistic perspective, he began exploring how aging affects the deeper structures of the face, particularly muscle descent.

The Byun Lift focuses on restoring facial anatomy by repositioning underlying muscles rather than simply tightening the skin. Using an endoscopic approach, muscles are moved upward and inward to their original position, creating a more natural and physiologically accurate result. This layered technique allows for longer-lasting outcomes while preserving the integrity of facial tissues.

Dr. Byun’s background in trauma and pediatric reconstructive surgery also informs his ability to address complex cases, including patients seeking correction from previous cosmetic procedures. Through detailed consultations, he helps patients understand their options and what can realistically be achieved.

“Our approach is centered on restoring structure, not altering identity,” he says.
