For more than 125 years, Immaculate Conception Grade School (ICGS) has been a cornerstone of the Elmhurst community. ICGS has educated thousands of students, with many second-, third-, and even fourth-generation alumni. While the school has grown and evolved over the years, its commitment to faith, family, and academic excellence has remained steadfast.

ICGS offers a comprehensive Catholic education for students from age three through eighth grade. Today, the school serves nearly 600 students and is supported by a dedicated staff of over 60 educators and administrators including a Math Specialist, Reading Specialist, Social Workers and nurse. Students are encouraged to explore interests through 40 extracurricular activities and nine athletic programs, ensuring opportunities for every child to grow and thrive.

IC Pastor, Father Tom Paul affirms, “Faith is at the heart of everything at Immaculate Conception.” Students begin and end each day in prayer and are encouraged to actively live out their faith. A weekly highlight is celebration of Mass, with students taking active leadership roles as altar servers, readers, gift bearers, and choir members.

Family involvement is deeply valued at ICGS, with numerous opportunities offered for families to connect. A vibrant Parents’ Club and the long-standing 1900 Father’s Club host a variety of social events throughout the year, fostering fellowship while supporting the school’s mission. Programs such a world champion Destination Imagination Team, Chess Club, Drama Club and Student Council extend learning beyond the classroom while bringing families together in support of the school.

Academic excellence is a hallmark of Immaculate Conception Grade School. Mrs. Sharon Meyer, ICGS Principal, shared that “At ICGS, we are known for our high academic standards. We challenge students while recognizing each child learns differently, with a variety of support programs to ensure all students receive the guidance they need to succeed.” To prepare graduates for the demands of high school and beyond, skills such as time management, study habits, memorization, public speaking, and responsibility for homework are intentionally woven into the curriculum.

Immaculate Conception Grade School continues to shape confident, compassionate, and faith-filled individuals, supported by family and equipped for lifelong success. As a parent to three ICGS students, Dr. Betsy Bruen says it best, “We feel incredibly grateful to be part of the ICGS community. The teachers create a caring, faith-filled, and academically challenging environment. The parent and family community is welcoming and supportive, making IC feel like an extension of home. Most importantly, ICGS is forming students who are not only smart, but kind and faithful young people, learning to live out their Catholic values each day.”

ICGS will host Mass at 9:00 am in the IC Sacred Heart Chapel
and an Open House from 10-11:30 am in IC Grade School
to celebrate Catholic Schools Week on
Sunday, January 25th, 2026.
All are welcome to attend.
