The Oak Brook Historical Society is pleased to announce the launch of the John and Janet Baar Summer Intern Program, a unique opportunity for students and history enthusiasts to gain hands-on experience in museum operations and historical preservation.

John Baar, a veteran educator and former Village Trustee, and his wife Janet, a retired Abbott  Labs professional, have been dedicated to preserving Oak Brook history since 1991.

“We are thrilled to support this program, said Baar. “It’s a wonderful way to inspire young historians and contribute to the preservation of Oak Brook’s unique heritage.”

The first intern was Gabe Wright, a senior at Aurora University majoring in history and museum studies. He worked during this past June through August.  As Gabe put it, “I had no idea of the history and the importance of the Butler family in establishing the Village of Oak Brook. That beginning has led to the unique community it has become.”  He added that he enjoyed working with historian Ray Paice and others and he will be sharing what he learned in his classes this fall.
