The Outpost Mexican Eatery

OUTPOST

What began as a family dream just before the pandemic has grown into one of Downers Grove’s favorite spots for tacos, burritos, bowls, and casual Mexican fare.

Owner Anna Kamilis opened The Outpost in late 2019 with a simple goal: serve fresh, flavorful Mexican food in a welcoming environment where guests feel like family. When the restaurant industry was turned upside down just weeks later, Kamilis adapted quickly, finding creative ways to continue serving customers and growing the business.

Today, The Outpost is known for its customizable menu featuring tacos, burritos, bowls, quesadillas, nachos, elote, churros, and breakfast favorites. Guests can choose from steak, chicken, al pastor, chorizo, shrimp, birria, and vegetarian options, making it easy to find something for every appetite.

The restaurant has also become a go-to choice for catering, serving office lunches, school events, fundraisers, athletic teams, and private gatherings throughout the western suburbs.

For Kamilis, however, success is about more than food. The Outpost actively supports local schools through hot lunch programs, teacher appreciation events, fundraisers, and youth athletics, including sponsorship of the Panthers. The restaurant also partners with organizations such as the YMCA, Rotary Club, Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club, Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club, Oak Brook Park District, and both the Oak Brook and 630 Chambers of Commerce.

“We’ve always wanted to be part of the community, not just serve it,” says Kamilis. “Supporting local families, schools, and organizations is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.”

Kamilis serves on the Executive Board of Directors for the Oak Brook Chamber of Commerce and has been recognized by Dynamic Women and the Chicago Power List for her leadership and community involvement.
