Building Community, One Home at a Time

30-1 DGJWC House Walk

House Walk success fuels record giving across Downers Grove

If you were anywhere near Downers Grove this spring, you could feel the excitement surrounding one of the village’s newest traditions: the Downers Grove House Walk. Hosted by the Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club (DGJWC), the annual event transformed the community’s tree-lined streets into a celebration of architecture, philanthropy and community spirit.

But the House Walk is about more than beautiful homes. It serves as the signature fundraiser for an organization that has spent more than 65 years empowering women to strengthen the community through service, leadership and philanthropy.

With more than 100 members, DGJWC made its biggest impact yet this year, raising and reinvesting more than $177,000 back into the community. The House Walk, known for its theme Homes with Heart, Community with Purpose, sold out in record time and featured five distinctive homes showcasing the diversity, creativity and craftsmanship found throughout Downers Grove.

The funds raised support a wide range of local initiatives, including organizations such as Hope’s Front Door, Blessings in a Backpack, Downers Grove Area FISH, the Indian Boundary YMCA and Young Hearts for Life. Education also remains a cornerstone of the Club’s mission through student scholarships, teacher grants and Women’s Workforce Empowerment Scholarships that help women pursue education and career advancement.

The Club’s impact continues to grow. Over the past two years, fundraising revenue has more than doubled, allowing DGJWC to expand its charitable giving and invest in even more programs that uplift local families.

DGJWC’s success is made possible through the support of local businesses and community partners. Special recognition goes to Cadence Kitchen & Co., The Foxtail and the soon-to-open Rec League, whose Platinum Sponsorship and ongoing commitment continue to elevate the House Walk year after year.
